Urban Issue Addressed: Unemployment

Peaceful CAFE

Project In Brief:
To create a work environment which is based on the hearing impaired people's advantage conjunct with customer’s need to be in a quiet, calm place.

Idea:
The unemployment of disable people is a severe social issue and employment is key to a regular life. According to International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF), there are no disabled persons but only disabled environments. For instance, hearing impaired people may have difficulty communicating with others orally. However, if the environment is silent, there is no difference between the hearing impaired and others.

I want to open a coffee shop which emphasizes a quiet area to relax and rest your mind and hire hearing impaired people to be the staff. Our potential customer will be those looking to escape from the noisy city and busy work, and finding a peaceful place to get away in a quiet seat and a cup of nice coffee.

There are three stages to expand Peaceful CAFE. First, we develop a software for making orders interactively instead of verbally. Second, we promote our café with quiet, peaceful, and calm images to attract our customer base. The last part is to build small coffee shops on the corner of the streets for people to buy a drink to take away or to experience ordering coffee without voice.

Live N Share Book Community

Project In Brief:
Innovative book online community which is a fully-managed platform that offers “physical” reading material providing services, unforgettable experience.

Idea:
Live N Share aims to help Thailand tackle illiteracy, reading achievement gap and book waste. We will build a online book community to offer “physical” reading materials and an unforgettable experience of sharing through Book borrowing & lending and Book donation.

In B&L service, we act as mediator to help people find their ‘right’ book lender and ‘right’ book borrower. Lenders can post details of their books . Borrowers then can use our search engine “Book Locator” to find their wanted books. The lenders will send borrowers their books in –the same way as borrowing from the library. Half of the transaction fee will be received by us and the rest to the lender. Lender may also choose to donate the fee to support children’s learning.

For Book Donation service, we help donors find the ‘right’ recipient for their books. Our team conducts surveys to find out what books people in each community need. We then post this list and donors can offer their books. ‘Book Wish’ service is also provided to help readers get their desired book with a cheaper price or free .

YELO - Empowering Rural Education

Project In Brief:
School bag converts into desk with solar LED lamp.

Idea:
Students in rural areas lack access to basic educational infrastructure. Sitting on the floor in incorrect posture for long working hours results in back pain, bad eyesight and inability to concentrate and study.

YELO is a smart innovative bag It not only helps children carry their books and study material safely (irrespective of the weather conditions) but also transforms into a school desk with a single fold technique. The desk offers an angle of 30-35 degrees for students to write and read, thus ensuring they maintain an ergonomic posture while studying. Suspended Coupon

Project In Brief:
Provide a suspended coupon platform.

Idea:
The news of "Sham Shui Po, Ming" promotes the public to have a "standby-food" concept. More and more restaurants have standby-food coupon to help people who in need.

After two years, the standby-food coupon concept is turning down. I think it is because lacking of a centralized platform to promote this concept. This project is to set up a platform based on this concept.

Different restaurant and organization can cooperate together to build up a huge standby-food network in order to help all people in Hong Kong.

The operation mechanism:

1. Restaurants can join the standby-food restaurant network. The online platform can promote their restaurants' location and information, which can be searched by public easily.

2. Commonly used standby-food coupon will be setup. Public can buy the coupon through the online. This can reduce the inconvenient of buying coupon in the restaurant. This can also promote restaurants in all districts.

3. This project will work with organizations who contact the people in need. The coupons can be distributed to the people based on their networking.

OLD's CoHo Project

Project In Brief:
Exploring the possibilty to develop Hong Kong 1st large-scale cohousing project for our future selves to AGE HAPPILY and DIE GRACIOUSLY.

Idea:
What plans do you have for your future selves when you reach retirement age? We aim to explore the possibility to develop Hong Kong's first large scale co-housing facility for citizens to age gracefully together.

Unlike other projects that our competitors have undertaken in the past; we aim to provoke a holistic approach to housing for our older generations – taking into account our changing needs and circumstances as we age and even death.

The accommodation should be affordable, secure and built around a community – providing mature, middle-class Hong Kong citizens with everything they need to enjoy the final chapters of their life.

This helps senior citizens to secure their own future and avoid being trapped by financial pressures, cross-generational problems and ever-escalating property/care/buriel service prices.
