Regional Finals

We conducted an Asia Top Social Needs survey to discover the top social needs for a few main Asian counties/cities. The top 3 of social needs will become the next topics of Asia Social Innovation Award 2016.

Propose an innovative start-up idea which tackles a pressing social issue related to your country (see the ATSN result as below) in 200-500 words or video:

Your application should include:

  1. Project Name and Status (Idea only, Pilot phase, Existing project more than 2 years)
  2. Urban issue addressed (Based on the ATSN result in your living country/city)
  3. Project Idea (200-500 words in Chinese/English) with nature of business idea highlighted

Tips: When you are thinking of a solution for Asia Top Social Needs, you may find that the social problem is rather difficult and complex. Try to identify a small piece within the general social problem and combine it with social needs, then think of an innovative solution to tackle it. You may refer to the Social Innovation Ideas Library, to see how other people are using innovative solutions to tackle their urban issues.

Grand Finals

The regional winners of “Best Social Start-up Idea” will have the opportunity to sharpen their idea and business model in the CVC Entrepreneurs’ Lab (led by leading private equity firm CVC Capital Partners) before presenting their ideas in grand finals.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How can I submit my application?

Applicants are only allowed to type out their idea or upload their video to YouTube and submit their application online. Please email us if you experience any difficulties submitting your idea online.

Can I participate as a team?

Whilst you can participate in the Award as a team, if you are residing outside of Hong Kong and in the event that your idea is chosen as a winning idea, SVhk will only provide return air tickets and accommodation for one member within your team. Of course other members can join the award presentation ceremony held in Hong Kong at their own cost.

Can I enter more than one submission?

Yes. For each application, you only need to suggest an idea that addresses one of the urban issues.

Can I submit in other languages other than English and Chinese?

The judging panel will only judge those ideas that are in English or Chinese. If you unable to fulfill this requirement, please consult the organization you belong to, and see if they will be able to translate the main theme of your idea into the appropriate language.

​​How many awardees of Best Social Start-up Idea will be selected from each country?

There will be 3 awardess selected from Hong Kong, 2 awardees selected from Other Asia region and an awardee selected from Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam each.

A total of 11 awardees will join a social start-up weekend and compete for the Grand Award of Social Innovator 2016.

Terms & Conditions

  1. Residents of the Hong Kong SAR, Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam may participate under the Hong Kong SAR, Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam regional category. Residents of other Asian countries please enter under "Other Asian Cities".
  2. The Organizer is only responsible for a round-trip economy class air ticket to and from a designated port of departure within the list of qualified Asian countries to Hong Kong. The round-trip air ticket is capped at maximum subsidy of US$1,000 through the cheapest travelling means obtained by the Organizer. The round-trip air tickets cannot be converted into cash.
  3. The Organizer has the right to arrange for, change or cancel the travel plans of the Asian winner without prior notice or compensation.
  4. Accommodation is arranged at the sole discretion of the Organizer and rooms may be shared.
  5. All participating proposals may be published on the Award website or any other media, to share the ideas with the public.
  6. Social Ventures Hong Kong reserves the final right to interpret and amend such terms and conditions of the Award.
